FirstPoint USA are thrilled to announce their partnership with Lambs Rugby, the Independent Schools Rugby Football Club. This partnership will give the Lambs Rugby the chance to provide the best opportunities for their athletes, with regard to taking the next step into collegiate rugby.
The Independent Schools RFC was set up to promote traditional rugby values and a ‘Corinthian’ spirit as their style: this is to play unreserved ‘heads up’ running rugby in a fast and expansive style, which is player rather than coach-led. Founded in 2006, The Lambs exists to create openings for boys to showcase their rugby skills at a representative level when they have been unable to do so due to other commitments or a lack of selection opportunities. The Lambs is all about rugby for the joy of rugby. Their excellent results on the field comes from the talent of players and the passion they quickly develop for the fast and free style of play.
“We are delighted to announce the start of a relationship with FirstPoint USA,” stated Lambs Rugby Chairman and Founder, Chris Terry. “It is potentially a very exciting opportunity for any of our players who wish to look at studying in the USA.”
Currently, The Lambs operate at an U16 and U18 level; nominations for both come through schools, to a national selection day for U16’s, and to regional teams and then on to a national selection programme for U18. A number of former Lambs have gone on to have exciting careers in rugby, including; Ruairi Van Raalte, who represented USA U20’s and is now at the Hurricanes in New Zealand; Ben Christie with Loughborough Students and formerly Scotland U20, and Sam Hudson, a member of the England Counties U20 side.
On forming the new partnership, FirstPoint USA Founder and Chief Executive, Andrew Kean, has stated, “We are delighted to announce our recent partnership with The Lambs Rugby. Throughout this partnership, we look to provide further opportunities for talented rugby players; working alongside Lambs Rugby, we will help players to take the next step into collegiate rugby.”
Now, more than ever, is a fantastic time to be pursuing a rugby scholarship in the United States. Beginning in 2018, the new professional rugby league – Major League Rugby (MLR) – will become the platform for professional rugby in the United States; utilising the college game as the primary pipeline of talent. With a 350% increase in participation in the last year alone, rugby is the fastest growing sport in the USA. Securing a rugby scholarship could provide players with the springboard into a professional career – both on and off the field.
