FirstPoint USA client, Matthew Robertson, began his golfing career in 2013, when he first joined Glasgow Golf Club, and since then has had a huge number of successes. Amongst others, these include; securing 2ndplace in both the individual and team (3-man) ISGA National Plate Finals, The Shire London. In 2016, Matthew was the youngest ever finalist in the Moray Open, (low handicap section). Matthew also won the Junior European Open regional qualifier at Alloa Golf Club, and earned himself a place at the European Finals in Spain, 2017.
At the beginning of the month, Matthew jetted off to Florida to embark upon his stay at the IMG Academy's Golf Camp - here, you can find out some more about Matthew's American adventure. Here, Matthew shares with us his first impressions of the IMG Academy, and his experiences from week one.
"One word. Insane! IMG is incredible! Arrived late at night on the Sunday and went straight to sleep for an early start the next morning on Day 1. Woke up to this happy picture; sun and sports facilities as far as I could see.
The first few days were intense with early morning workouts, on the range for long hours in the morning and course practice in the afternoon. But I do love practicing in the sun!
Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I usually eat a standard amount, but with the selection here, I can barely carry the weight on my tray! So much food and it’s gone within 5 minutes of sitting down. Food for athletes! It is about refuelling and powering up and the nutritionist’s notes are written up daily with recommendations for what makes a great balanced choice.
I have been doing lots of great work in the tour studio, which includes SAM’s putt lab, trackman, body track and club reviewing. All the coaches are great fun and so enthusiastic about the game. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and this is something I haven’t had much experience of at home as I have never really trained in a team environment. Their coaching has helped me improve already as a player, but also about how I think about the game. I can’t wait to get to competition to assess how the improvements impact my scoring. Shout out to the coaches from week 1: Gary, Scott B and Alex.
Practice plays a big part in my game here, and outworking others around me is what motivates me to improve. Whether that means being the first one in the gym or the last one to leave the putting green. It’s what I will continue to do in the next few weeks while I’m here to bring out the best of my ability in the coming months. I can’t wait to see what week 2 brings."
We’d like to thank Matthew for sharing his experiences from week one at the IMG Academy's Golf Camp; keep an eye out for his week two blog which will be published across our various social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
