We have a fantastic guest lined up for one of our forthcoming webinars as we welcome experienced Premier League goalkeeper and Bosnian international Asmir Begović to our series, taking place on Monday 11 November.
Date: Monday 28 November
Times: 7pm (GMT) and 7pm (Eastern)
Asmir, who has enjoyed an illustrious professional football career since making his Premier League debut with Portsmouth in 2009, is currently with Everton and is recognised as one of the leading goalkeeping authorities in the country. He’ll be discussing all things goalkeeping, passing on his advice for aspiring young footballers, giving his insights on college soccer and reflecting on the key moments that shaped his career.
Bringing a very different perspective to the traditional football pathway, Asmir endured a challenging upbringing having been forced to flee his home in Bosnia Herzegovina at a young age during the Balkan conflict of the early 1990s. His career came full circle when he proudly represented his country at their first ever World Cup in 2014 in Brazil, playing in all three group games and lining up against Argentina and Lionel Messi in their opening match.
Begović established himself as the No. 1 for Stoke City making 160 appearances, before securing an £8m transfer to Chelsea Having been No 2 for Chelsea for 3 seasons, he moved to Bournemouth as they gained promotion to the Premier League and is now in his second spell at Goodison Park, after a season with Championship side QPR.
A highly respected athlete on and off the pitch, he is an ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR and runs his own goalkeeping academy, with locations in England, Bosnia Herzegovina and Germany.
FirstPoint USA are proud partners of the Asmir Begović Academy, and we supported Asmir’s younger brother Denis in landing a soccer scholarship with Shaw University in North Carolina.
Speaking previously about his journey, Asmir said: “Being a refugee and escaping from the conflict in Bosnia Herzegovina definitely instilled that resilience and mental toughness in me. To come out of those circumstances and do what I’ve been blessed to do for many years now, no negative times get me down. It definitely humbled me.”
We will be hosting the interview with Asmir at two different times on Monday 11th November with the option to join us at 7pm (GMT) or 7pm (Eastern).
